(Beijing, March 22) "Everything goes on well and I believe you can do better during the Beijing Olympic Games," Gianni Lonzi, Chairman of the FINA Technical Water Polo Committee, was quoted as saying when commenting on the on-going "Good Luck Beijing" 2008 Water Polo China Open held at Ying Tung Natatorium.
As a senior expert on the sport, Gianni Lonzi spoke highly of the event organization, the venue and its supporting facilities. "Everything is well prepared and so far we haven't met any problem. The local organizers have handed out a very satisfactory examination paper."
Talking about the eight participating teams, the FINA official said, "Although Russia didn't sent its best team here all the four women's teams tried their best in the competition as they all wanted to test themselves through the tournament. In the men's group it was a pity that we had only one foreign team from Australia."
Commenting on the water polo development in China, Gianni Lonzi said, "Water polo is a young sport in China. The Chinese Swimming Association has done a lot of work for this World Cup tournament as well as the Beijing Olympic Games. With pertinacious enthusiasm for the sport in the days to come, I'm sure they will help promote China's water polo development to a new high."
