(Beijing, March 23) In the men's final of the "Good Luck Beijing" 2008 Water Polo China Open held at Ying Tung Natatorium this afternoon, China suffered setback at the hands of Australia and had to settle for the second place. After the match head coach Wang Minhui made comments on his team's performance.
"Our defense in the first quarter was not so good, which allowed our opponents too many goals," Wang said. "Later in the match, our players did better in defense except for some errors in the offensive." Judging by the whole tournament, the Chinese coach showed his satisfaction with the players. "Our team was making constant progress," he added, "only that much has remained to be desired, especially in some technical details."
Given the grouping for Olympic water polo competition that was unveiled yesterday, China will face great challenges from other teams in the so-called "death group". "We will still strive for a place among the top 10," insisted Wang. "Although we have a long way to go before catching up with those strong teams, we will not change our aim for the Olympic Games."
